GENE CAMPAIGN has made a compilation
of the information available on Bt Cotton in a CD titled "THE STORY OF BT COTTON IN INDIA"
The report
contains information gathered from diverse sources from 2001 till March
2005. This in the form of articles, press releases, reports of fields
studies done by a number of agencies including the governments of those
states where Bt cotton was cultivated these last three years; news
appearing in the media and interventions in Parliament.
Bt cotton is India's first genetically engineered crop. Three
cotton varieties belonging to Mahyco- Monsanto were given conditional approval for a period of three
years in 2002.
The performance of Bt cotton in India has been the subject of
great controversy with claims made by civil society and counter claims made by Monsanto.
The "THE STORY OF BT COTTON IN INDIA" is available as a hard
copy and as a CD for a sum of Rs.450 or $ 20. Those interested can write to Gene Campaign at
