FOOD AVAILABILITY OF THE POOREST HOUSEHOLDS : REPORT OF A
SURVEY IN CENTRAL JHARKHAND
- Violayne Schoch,
Gene Campaign, July-August
2009
Gene Campaign conducted a small study to assess the food
availability in the poorest households in central
Jharkhand. According to the census of 2001, more than a
quarter of Jharkhand’s population is tribal. The study
also attempts to see if there are significant differences
between tribal and non-tribal households, and if the
tribal households are more likely to suffer from food
insecurity despite their rich traditional knowledge about
natural resources and crop varieties..
