Issues relating to the effects of GM crops are the subject of
on-going debates all over the world. In the US state of
Arizona, maps of GM cotton fields are enabling detailed
analyses of the effects of these crops. Now a team of
scientists are calling for a similar mapping of GM crop
fields all over the US in order to study their environmental
impact on a country wide scale.

Despite pressure from the European Union, Greece has extended
its three year ban on the GM maize, produced by US biotech
giant Monsanto, by another 2 years. According to the Greek
agriculture minister, the decision is based on new scientific
findings which view GM maize as a potential threat to human
health and to the beekeeping industry.
