Greece extends ban GM maize

  

Despite pressure from the European Union, Greece has extended its three year ban on the GM maize, produced by US biotech giant Monsanto, by another 2 years. According to the Greek agriculture minister, the decision is based on new scientific findings which view GM maize as a potential threat to human health and to the beekeeping industry. Australian soy farmers fear contamination from GM crops

 

The lifting of the ban on GM canola has not come as good news for soy bean growers in Australia. The Australian soy bean market has been surviving because it is a GMO-free crop.
