TRAINING PROGRAM FOR CIVIL SOCIETY GROUPS IN ASIA

ON

AGROBIODIVERSITY, AGBIOTECHNOLOGY AND FOOD SECURITY

ASIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

Gene Campaign organised a training programme on Agrobiodiversity, Agniotechnology and Food Security for Asian CSOs at  Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok from 27 - 29 November 2006. The workshop was conducted under aegis of the Food Trade and Nutrition Coalition - Asia. The  aim  of the training programme  was to build capacity among Civil Society.

  • Increase ability among CSOs to conduct public debates in their countries to foster an informed debate on the relevance of GMOs to food security and the urgency of conserving of agrobiodiversity.

  • To engage intelligently with policymakers to influence policy with regard to these fields.

  • Be able to critique and monitor the regulatory and oversight mechanisms.

  • Articulate the rights of citizens and consumers to safe food of their choice.

  • Capacity among CSOs to conduct similar training workshops.

Participant from Countries - India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Korea and Thailand.
